So glad to have these wonderful comics of my youth released in Omni format!

Classic Dark Horse 90's AVP comics. You just can't go wrong. I remember reading all these comics when I was a young one in the early-mid 90s. To have these reprinted is like reliving a part of my past. I was raised on Dark Horse comics of the 90's and to see some of these oldies get reprinted on an Omni format is just great for old fans like me. It might be kind of hard to get into these comics now if you weren't a part of the original craze of popularity of Aliens and Predators in pop culture during the 90's. Younger fans might have a hard time appreciating this. For any fan of the original comics, or just Aliens and Predator in general, these Omni's are a must have.

As a kid growing up I was a big fan of Dark Horse comics and would pick up Alien, Predator, and AvP comics whenever I could find them. Unfortunately that meant that I could never read them issue to issue but in a more patchwork way. Having everything together in 2 omnibuses is a dream come true for me.
If you are a fan of any of those franchises, they are worth the price of admission. Back in the early nineties I would pay $12 an issue, that was if any issues were even in stock -- most of the time they weren't. From that viewpoint, these omnibuses are a great value.

No heroes here, back out!

Wanting to get some fresh air, away from super-heroes comics, I discovered that Aliens and Predators also had some comic books. Even better, collected in 400+ pages for a great price.
So I bought this Omnibus - Volume 1 to check it out and it didn't disappoint me at all. The "Omnibus" in the book title may be misleading at least to me, someone used to Marvel and DC Omnibuses being huge books with hardcover. It turns out Dark Horse's Omnibuses are not only trade paperbacks but also made in a small page format; as you can see in the product description above, it's 6x9 inches.
That surprised me as being a great format for reading; I took the book with me in a weekend trip and read it all during any free time I had alone. Being small and not weighing much is definitely a positive factor to enjoy the story. Marvel and DC Omnibuses may be beautiful for the shelves, but hey, I like comics for reading. For decoration I prefer using action figures or Lego anyways.
The stories are great; fun to read and thrilling. They catch on you like a hook and you just can't stop reading. The art varies from mediocre, which never becomes a negative factor for the enjoyment of the script, to very good, which adds a lot to the depth of the story.
Another positive is that even when the stories don't seem to be related at all some character from before appears and blows your mind. In super-heroes comics nowadays you're used to buying a Spider-Man comic and seeing any of other Marvel characters, sometimes requiring the knowledge of that character's story and background to even understand what's going on. Here you can read all the stories apart and the connections between them serve merely as a complement.
So, from an AVP fan to another AVP fans out there, I recommend this book. Much of the magic from these characters' duel, that I love to see in the PC games and the movies failed to represent, is inside these comics.
And to readers out there who are also tired of the same mega-sagas and superpowers, looking for something different, I recommend this book as well. I'm sure that, even if you don't like the "monster in space" setting, you'll like the originality of these stories.
Hey, we gotta breath some fresh air in comics now and then.
