About the Author
Leon Morris (1914-2006), one of the leading evangelical New Testament scholars of the twentieth century, served as principal of Ridley College in Melbourne, Australia. He was the author of more than forty works, including The Apostolic Preaching of the Cross, The Atonement, and comprehensive scholarly studies on Matthew, Luke, John and Romans. He was the general editor of the Tyndale New Testament Commentaries and wrote the volumes in that series on Luke, 1 Corinthians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians and Revelation.

This book covers a multitude of angles as the author weaves through common themes most commentaries touch on, plus a little more. An academic feel is experienced while reading, for certain, but the book gives a personal touch as well, calling the reader deeper into Luke's Gospel to draw closer to God.

Better commentaries on Luke out there

Didn’t realize this was an older version of one I have. My review stays the same though. I’ve not found the comments very insightful, especially compared to my other commentaries on Luke.

Good solid guide through Luke

Many years ago, I read this commentary cover-to-cover. I had some good introductory knowledge of the Bible at the time, and I can remember that this commentary filled my brain with a ton of great facts and information on Luke's gospel, and cleared up many tricky passages.
Morris' commentary cannot compete with the more recent, larger commentaries because this series has much briefer volumes. But don't let its size fool you. It has some good insights in it. If you have some of the bigger commentaries (e.g., Bock, Marshall, Fitzmyer, Green, Plummer, Nolland, Stein, Ellis, etc.), you will probably won't need this.
However, if you are a casual reader of the Bible, or you are a small group Bible study leader, you will find that this gives you excellent information of a historical, cultural, and linguistic nature so you can better understand Luke's gospel.
