Lars Thinggaard is President and CEO of Milestone Systems A/S. Lars is a dynamic manager with years of entrepreneurial experience. He was Co-founder and CFO at Mondosoft, COO and CFO at Beologic (acquired by Baan), CFO at In2itive (acquired by SPSS), Auditor at Arthur Andersen and at Price Waterhouse, now Price Waterhouse Coopers. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Finance and Accounting from the Copenhagen Business School. When I saw an email from Milestone telling me that their CEO had published a book, I quickly grabbed the Kindle version. As an employee of a busy security integrator, I work with Milestone frequently. Milestone has proven to be an excellent product for our customers, and the company has been incredibly successful. I've been very curious as to the story behind the company, and this book satisfied. Lars tells the story in a very conversational manner, weaving his own story effectively into the saga of Milestone. From the Scandinavian management model, to why Milestone is an open platform, to the acquisition by Canon, he covers it all. I highly recommend this book not only to people in the physical security industry, but to anyone involved in tech startups. It is a quick, fun read.

Always enjoyable to hear theory put into practice. Nice to hear from a Scandinavian view of the world. This is an easy read because it's concise, well - written, and nicely structured. They are innovating to disrupt an industry, and the insights on their path towards the IPO process and acquisition also offered interesting interesting insights. I felt tired just reading it... Their Open stance towards partnering will serve them well. This isn't the easiest path, but the one that will serve them best in the long run.

This book came out several years ago, before 9-11 in fact.� In my own words, not the author's, "Jihad" is used as a catchall for fundamentalist type societies and "McWorld" is used as a catchall for Western culture and capitalism.� Here's my nutshell version: Barber is of the opinion, ala "how ya gonna keep em down on the farm..." that the more that fundamentalist societies are exposed to western technology and "luxuries," the harder it will be for people like the Ayatollahs to control them� I don't think he necessarily believes that McWorld is the correct answer, just a more likely result as we all become more and more enveloped in technology. I found this book both educational and optimistic in tone.

This volume provides an excellent overview of the current hot debates in philosophy of art. Each topic is treated in sufficent depth to engage a graduate student with background in aesthetics, and yet the topics treated provide a sampler platter for those new to the discipline. An excellent read overall.

About the Author
Harvey Cox is Hollis Research Professor of Divinity at Harvard University. He is the author of many books, including most recently The Future of Faith (HarperCollins). The Secular City, his first book, has sold nearly a million copies and has been translated into seventeen languages.

Towards a theology of the secular city

The Secular City not only delineates the main features of contemporary life in the post industrial age where technology has advanced so far that it has made revolutionary inroads to the features of cities across the main capitals of the world and offer a credible presentation of God's presence in this our contemporary world, largely moved by a cynical mental take or indifference to the reality of God. It does so not by means of mere philosophical and sociological presuppositions but by real, down to earth research on actual sociological phenomena. Harvey Cox the author presents the credible, often times astonishing developments of major cities in our world and aims to present his conclusions on how to interpret theology in secular society. Is it even possible to create a theology of the secular city? Do we have to be members of an organized religion to participate in a credible acceptance of God's presence in our world?
